In the Infection Preventionist role, you will be responsible for identifying, implementing, and managing quality improvement strategies for infection-related topics (e.g., Influenza, Pneumonia, CLABSI, CAUTI, C. Difficile, sepsis, pressure ulcers), including pandemics (e.g. COVID). This individual is responsible for assisting with emergency preparedness and antibiotic stewardship initiatives. The Infection Preventionist works with the senior leadership, direct care and performance improvement professionals in the hospital, nursing home, home health and clinician office settings to ensure the implementation and ongoing internal monitoring of evidence-based interventions in a timely and effective manner. The Infection Preventionist also works with professional health care organizations and community-based organizations to enlist their support as partners in improving infection related processes and immunization rates. This individual will need to perform onsite infection control visits (varying healthcare settings) and generate site visit reports. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Recruit and engage providers and stakeholders resulting in active participation infection control work to improve patient outcomes related to quality and efficiency of care.
  • Provides ongoing 1:1 and group technical assistance and/or onsite consultation to providers for all aspects of performance improvement targeting improvement in infection prevention establishing trust and the confidence of providers.
  • Monitors closely the progress of provider intervention, maintains a tracking system for the adopted interventions, identifies and drives implementation of new strategies when needed to drive measure improvement. 
  • Attends and participates in IPRO regional conferences, department meetings, and professional education meetings.
  • Leads or co-leads cross-contract or cross-category project team(s) demonstrating leadership in bringing together diverse perspectives and ideas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Superior communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate quality improvement data and methods to health care providers and community stakeholders with varying technical and clinical backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of health care quality improvement. Experience with quality improvement research techniques and knowledge of disparities in the care of underserved populations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of developing productive relationships with health care provider staff, consumers, and community stakeholders, including business and political leaders.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Proven record of success in promoting improvement in healthcare quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment. 
  • Ability to travel to provider sites and conferences as required.
  • Computer proficiency with a developed knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Management Tools, Access, and other databases).
  • Ability to provide formal and informal presentations to internal staff and external customers.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or related field, required. Infection Prevention training and experience are required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in healthcare quality improvement, required.
  • Prior experience in nursing within the health care setting required. 
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC®) preferred.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. The annualized salary range for this position is $85,000.00 – $90,000.00. Actual salary range and/or hourly rate depends on a variety of factors including experience, education, credentials, location, and budget.
