IPRO End State Renal Disease Networks

IPRO operates four of the 18 ESRD networks, Network 1 (New England), Network 2 (New York), Network 6 (South Atlantic) and Network 9 (Ohio River Valley). 

Each Network Organization is responsible for developing its own local objectives and goals that support nationwide priorities mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the legislative requirements of Congress. Each Network Organization is required to conduct specific contractual activities to improve patient care, maintain a patient registry, provide educational materials and investigate patient complaints. All ESRD providers are required to participate in Network activities and cooperate in achieving Network goals.

                                           ESRD Internship – Network 2 (New York)

ESRD Network Scope Overview

  • Contractor with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in support of achieving national quality improvement goals
  • Align Network activities with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) National Quality Strategy (NQS)
  • Deploy interventions that target patients, dialysis/transplant providers, other providers, and/or other stakeholders
  • Incorporate a focus on disparities in conducting all of the activities outlined by CMS strategic goals of the ESRD Network Program
  • Quality Improvement Activities (QIA) shall analyze data and implement interventions aimed at reducing disparities
  • The successful Networks shall be patient care navigators and lead transformation by:
  • Serving as conveners, organizers, motivators, and change agents;
  • Leveraging technology to provide outreach and education;
  • Serving as partners in quality improvement with patients, practitioners, healthcare providers, other healthcare organizations, and other stakeholders;
  • Securing commitments to create collaborative relationships with other stakeholders and partners
  • Achieving and measuring changes at the patient level through data collection, analysis, and monitoring for improvement;
  • Disseminating and spreading best practices including those relating to clinical care, quality improvement techniques, and data collection through information exchange; and
  • Participating in the development of a CMS national framework for providing emergency preparedness services for the ESRD community.

Quality Improvement Team Proposed Intern Project

  • Developing Marketing Campaign to increase Network brand awareness in provider and patient communities
    • Compiling a Stakeholder Register and Outreach Plan based on Community Needs Assessments
  • Re-organization of Educational Resource/Publications Management Process
    • Development of Data Dashboard for Inventory Metrics and Request Tracking
    • Conduct Website Maintenance using Data Analytics for 508 Compliance
