IPRO Managed Care Department

For 25+ years, IPRO’s Managed Care Department has worked at the forefront of performance measurement and improvement, combining the dual values of scientific evidence and the practical experiences of states and managed care plans. As the External Quality Review Organization (EQRO) for 10 state governments, we work with over 125 managed care plans that provide managed physical, behavioral, dental, HIV and long-term care. Our measurement and improvement knowledge has impacted people across all Medicaid eligibility categories, geographic areas, and risk groups related to age, race, ethnicity, language and ability.

                                                   Managed Care Internship

  • Provide analytic support on External Quality Review activities as well as on any special projects
    • Areas may relate to: quality measurement and management (CQI), compliance reviews, and program evaluation (e.g., Medicaid PIPs)
    • Data management and analysis of a range of data types: administrative (claims and cost) data, pharmaceutical data, clinical data, and patient behavioral and sentiment data
    • Using a range of tools, including: statistical packages (SAS, R), (SQL-based) databases, and data abstraction tools
  • Provide technical assistance support on External Quality Review activities as well as on any special projects
    • Areas may relate to: quality measurement and management (CQI), compliance reviews, and program evaluation
    • Activities may include: development and implementation of tools and instruments to facilitate analysis, supporting reviews of Performance Improvement Projects (PIPs) and other special projects

 Desired Attributes and Skills

  • Solid foundation in research methodology and the scientific method
  • Graduate-level education in healthcare (including community- and public health) research and policy
  • Graduate students of biostatistics and epidemiology are expected to have an advanced understanding of biostatistics and its application to healthcare analytics
  • Comfortable working with and managing both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Attention to detail and a motivation to learn new skills
  • Flexible team player who thrives in a high-paced, deliverables-focused
